AC Cobra
AC Cobra
We feel compelled to dedicate a space to one of the legends of the automotive world, created by the genius of Carroll Shelby!
The car was put on the market under various names, initially as Shelby AC Cobra and later became A.C. Cobra and finally Ford Cobra. The special feature of this car is the fact that united a Ford V8 engine and a body English is not too heavy; in fact he weighed only 1,311 kg.
This car was born initially as an intuition of Carroll Shelby, because he wanted to combine the agility of the chassis to engine power to American English.
In 1964, groped to oppose the dominance of Ferrari, was mounted on the Cobra a new larger displacement engine, the Ford 427 Side Oiler type 7-liter, originally developed for the NASCAR races. Compared to the previous engine 289 power unit developing 350 hp, the Side Oiler it was providing 500. In addition, on the advice of Phil Remington, chief designer of the Shelby American, the car left the leaf spring suspension system for a double wishbone configuration. This is because the previous system did not allow you to better manage the power of the car.
The first prototype of the Cobra 427 was built in 1965; after producing the first 100 units required approval FIA, the car took part in the 1966 SCCA championship in the class A [1].
The final production was of 348 copies, of which 88 are under construction or stroke test.
Among the rarer versions there is the 427SC, a model with road racing trim produced in 31 units.
In this picture you can see a model photographed on Lake Iseo, in Italy.
