Interview with Paul Newitt
Interview with Paul Newitt author of “1968 Mustang GT/CS Recognition Guide & Owners Manual”
Hello Fabrizio!
” We are going to ask you some simple questions about you and stangs. All of your answer will be welcome!
1 Please introduce yourself
I am Paul M. Newitt, and I’m a Designer, Writer, Photographer and Publisher….and Idea guy and modelmaker (for TV shows, like JAG, Star Trek Enterprise and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD). I grew up in Northern California, and once lived in San Diego. I also have a Facebook page for anyone who would like to follow me.
2 When did your passion about mustangs begin and why?
When I was a kid, about 11, my dad got a new 1967 Mustang GT as a loaner car while our 1962 Falcon wagon was being repaired at the local Ford dealer. That was my first ride in a Mustang, and I totally fell in love with it!!!
3 Do you have a stang and if yes which one?
I had a 1968 Mustang GT/CS for 36 years, and had to sell it to print my GT/CS book, and now I own a 1994 GT as a driver car.
4 which is your favourite?
My favorite Mustangs have always been the Ford concept cars, especially the 1967 Mach 1 show car…but for production Mustangs, I prefer the 1968, because it’s the best of the classic period (1965-68), with style and safety (at that time). But my favorite is the 2015 Mustang!! An amazing job by head designer Kemal Couric!
5 When did you decide to write a book?
Since I owned a GT/CS for so long, it seemed that no one knew the real story of how those cars were created. So, I taught myself how to produce books, and decided that the real story had to be told. I self-published the “1968 Mustang GT/CS Recognition Guide & Owners Manual in 1989, and it quickly sold out. I decided in 2008 to begin a revised edition, which was published in 2011, and was an instant hit. Originally $100 a copy, they are now sold for over $125 online.
6 How much time does it take? Including find infos about the subject.
It took me over 2 years to do the research, and interview people that worked on the car, and retired photographers that had some very rare photos!
When my book was completed, I recieved a Lee Iacocca Award, and was interviewed by Jay Leno for his website, “Jay Leno’s Garage”.
7 Where can we buy your book?
You can get it from Motorbooks, or Marti Auto Works, or Tony Branda Performance, or from my own website (through Pay Pal): pmndesigns.com, if anyone would liek a personalized signed copy.
